š§ø Banner Staff Bring Holiday Cheer to Gilbert Classrooms

The Gist: Hundreds of employees at Banner MD Anderson Cancer Center teamed up for their annual toy and clothing drive, gathering gifts and essentials for Gilbert Public Schools. What started four years ago has grown into a campuswide effort, helping more than 80 students across six local schools this season. Donations ranged from toys and clothes to blankets and household basics, all matched to real family needs identified by school staff.
Why It Matters: This drive quietly lifted a big holiday burden for local families who needed it most. Organizers say the tradition is here to stay.

The Gist: Gilbert is drafting its 2026 Annual Action Plan, which guides how federal Community Development Block Grant funds are spent on housing, infrastructure, and local services. Town leaders are inviting residents to share ideas and priorities, starting with a public meeting on January 14 at 5:30 PM at the Gilbert Heritage Center. Input gathered will help shape which projects move forward and how resources support neighbors with low to moderate incomes.
Why It Matters: These funds directly impact everyday needs across Gilbert, from safe housing to essential community services. The draft plan posts January 21, with public hearings in February and March.
