Father’s Day weekend is here, and Gilbert has plenty of ways to celebrate the dads who make life a little better. Looking for a great burger, a fresh cut, or simply spending time together around town? There’s something worth checking out.

But some of the best local stories aren’t always the biggest events. They’re the moments when a neighbor lends a hand, a volunteer gives up a Saturday morning, or someone finds a simple way to make their community stronger. This week’s scoop is full of those reminders of what makes Gilbert feel like home.

🏡 Gilbert's summer service project for local seniors

The Gist: The Town of Gilbert is hosting a Day of Service for Seniors on Saturday, July 18, from 7:30 to 11:30 a.m. to help older adults live safely and comfortably at home. The town is looking for seniors who need a hand and volunteers to help out. If you or a neighbor could use the assistance, you can reach out to Linda Ayres at [email protected].

Why It Matters: By giving just four hours of our Saturday morning, we can make a massive difference in keeping our seniors safe, independent, and comfortable in the homes they love.

🚧 Williams Field Road lane closures kicked in last week

The Gist Starting last Wednesday, June 10, Williams Field Road near SanTan Village was reduced to interior lane closures in both directions for intersection work at Market Street. These 24-hour restrictions span from the Loop 202 to about 200 feet east of Market Street. The Town expects the project to last about two weeks, meaning construction will wrap up right around the time everyone heads out for Father's Day reservations.

Why it Matters: While outside lanes and the westbound-to-southbound left turn remain open, traffic is bound to back up. It's much better to know now than to get stuck sitting in it!

🥃 Scratch burgers and moonshine mixers

2531 S Gilbert Rd #101, Gilbert

Copper Still Moonshine Grill has kept the same winning formula since 2013: a relaxed gastropub pairing moonshine cocktails with oversized burgers. The vibe handles a quiet lunch just as easily as karaoke or a World Cup match on the big screens.

The honest American menu features the local favorite Scorpion grilled cheeseburger and loaded hot dogs with crispy tater tots. It is the ultimate no-reservation move for Pop's Weekend.

💸 The cash-only tradition dads actually love.

2401 E Baseline Rd #99, Gilbert

Irving’s Barbershop keeps things wonderfully straightforward with classic chairs, cash-only walk-ins, and a crew that knows exactly how to deliver a crisp fade. The atmosphere balances comfortable silence with easy conversation, complete with kid-friendly music when the younger crowd drops by.

Sending Pops in for a hot straight-razor shave and a quick beard tidy makes for a practical Father's Day treat he will actually appreciate this week.

A great fetch partner, Rosemary

This 1½-year-old Terrier and Shepherd mix weighs a compact 24 pounds. She is an expert at fetch who loves making people smile. Her funniest habit is a hilarious "stop, drop, and roll" routine with her soft toys, looking exactly like she is training for the local fire department!

Rosemary is friendly and curious, though her high energy means she does best as the only pet. She is fully vetted with an adoption fee of $275.
