If youβre looking for a reason to get out of the house this week, Gilbert has you covered. You could start with a Spicy Sicilian latte under the patio misters, spend an evening looking through a telescope at the Riparian, then finish the week with live music or a little line dancing.

There are also a few quieter finds worth checking out, including a charming bookshop inside a century-old farmhouse. Itβs a good mix of the familiar and the unexpected, which is one of our favorite things about exploring our own backyard.

π Celebrate Pollinator Month at the Riparian

The Gist: The Riparian Preserve is marking Parks for Pollinators Month with four September programs for every age, from a parent-and-tot story-and-craft class to an adults-only Pollinator Garden 101 workshop. Most send participants home with desert-adapted plants or seeds to start a pollinator garden of their own.
Why It Matters: It is a lovely, hands-on way to spend a September morning with the kids and walk away with something growing. The all-ages BioBlitz on September 26 even lets families help document the real pollinators living at the Preserve using a free phone app.
β½ Inclusive Soccer Comes to Gilbert This September
The Gist Gilbert Parks and Recreation's Taryn Cantrell traveled to Kazakhstan this year for an international adaptive sports exchange, and she is bringing what she learned home to the soccer field. Her new program, Kickoff for Inclusion, welcomes athletes ages 8 and up of all abilities to play alongside members of the ASU Men's Soccer Club.
Why It Matters: It is a warm, genuinely love-local story: a town employee turning a global experience into something kids can walk right into. The inaugural camp runs Saturday, September 12, and registration is open now.

π΅ Italian espresso craft under cool misters

339 N Gilbert Rd, Gilbert
Villa Meola Coffee shares a sunny Downtown Gilbert space with Gelato Cimmino, serving espresso pulled on a rare Astoria manual-lever machine. Their syrups shine in inventive seasonal drinks like the Spicy Sicilian (a pistachio, orange, and Calabrian chili latte) or a chilled Stracciatella cold brew.
Beat the late-summer heat under patio misters while enjoying a genuinely welcoming environment, housemade almond milk, and a scoop of gelato next door.

π A farmhouse where stories truly come alive

397 S Gilbert Rd Ste 140, Gilbert
South of downtown at Farmhouse Village, a weathered Mark Twain statue greets visitors outside a 110-year-old farmhouse. This cozy 848-square-foot space is Literally A Bookshop, and they have everything from bilingual picture books to indie-exclusive releases like Camp Half Blood.
The shop hosts Hobbit craft nights, yoga, and book clubs for all ages. Special orders even arrive with handwritten notes, making every visit feel genuinely personal.

Agnetha is an intelligent companion who brings a calm energy
This adult Shepherd mix is a joy on walks, respectful on a leash, and perfectly house-trained. She thrives with large dog friends and enjoys the company of children, though she prefers a home without cats.
Being a larger dog, she needs a securely fenced yard to stretch her legs and play. Her adoption fee is $300.
