A temporary park closure is never fun, but knowing Desert Sky Park is coming back with splash pads, pickleball courts, and dozens of new acres softens the blow a bit.

Gilbert keeps growing fast, and projects like this remind you how much the town is investing in family spaces and community life. In the meantime, we rounded up plenty of ways to stay entertained this week.

Preferably somewhere with air conditioning?

🌳 Desert Sky Park pausing for a summer makeover

The Gist Gilbert is temporarily closed Desert Sky Park from Tuesday, May 26, through Friday, September 4, 2026, to allow crews to safely tackle Phase 2 construction. Officials intentionally scheduled the closure during our hottest summer months when park usage is naturally lower to minimize the impact on neighbors. The shutdown will allow crews to accelerate work on expanding the park.

Why It Matters: While losing a favorite park for the summer is a bummer, this project will add 50 new acres of recreation space right in our backyard. The expansion features a new splash pad, eight pickleball courts, a dog run, and inclusive playgrounds. It is a massive investment that ensures every family in our community has a great place to play.

πŸ” Coming Soon: a new restaurant-heavy shopping hub

The Gist: Accelerated Development Services filed proposals last week for SanTan Crossing, a new 20-acre retail center at the southeast corner of Williams Field Road and San Tan Village Parkway. Owned by billionaire Los Angeles Angels owner Arte Moreno, who bought the land last year for 24.5 million dollars, the site will feature 12 buildings, including full-service restaurants, drive-thrus, and a bank. One portion of the site is currently being held for future retail development.

Why It Matters: This development sits right at one of our town's busiest intersections near the Loop 202 freeway. What fills this space will completely reshape the dining and shopping scene for the south end of Gilbert, making it a major addition to our daily commutes and weekend plans.

Udder Delights has quietly scooped the Valley’s finest scratch-made ice cream for over a decade. Sourced from Superstition Farm right here in Gilbert, the milk and cream pair with local produce for unapologetically natural flavors.

The mint chip skips the green dye, while the mango and salted caramel are masterclasses in texture. It is a simple fixture where the prices are fair, the samples are generous, and the quality is unmatched.
