We’re heading into one of those weekends where staying home almost feels like a missed opportunity. There’s a free movie night, solid farmers markets, live music, and even a season finale event before summer hits pause.

And for celebrating Mother’s Day, you’ve got options that go beyond the usual brunch reservation. Take a look through and pick one thing to get out and do. That’s usually all it takes. 😉

🛝 A Fresh Start For Crossroads And Freestone Parks

The Gist: Gilbert is kicking off major renovations this year at Crossroads and Freestone parks to upgrade aging infrastructure and improve water resiliency. Crossroads Park will see new irrigation and aquifer wells by summer 2027, while Freestone is already 30% through building a new pickleball complex and splash pad. Most of the work across both sites is expected to wrap up by spring 2027.

Why It Matters: These upgrades ensure our local parks remain sustainable and fun for the long haul. By focusing on water quality and modernizing popular spots like the skate park and ballfields, the town is protecting the green spaces where our families gather and play.

What’s Next: You can drop by the Crossroads Park open house today, May 7 at 5 p.m. at the Left Field Ramada, or head to the Freestone Park open house on May 14 at 5:30 p.m. at the softball fields.

⚾ Cactus Yards Knocks It Out Of The Park Again

The Gist Gilbert’s Cactus Yards was just named Outstanding Park of the Year by the USSSA for the sixth time since opening in 2019. Based on 2025 season feedback, the complex earned a massive 77 out of 80 points, with perfect scores for cleanliness, staff courtesy, and affordability. The facility at 4536 E. Elliot Road remains a national standout for its eight replica fields and indoor fieldhouse.

Why It Matters: Having a nationally recognized, award-winning facility in our backyard makes Gilbert a premier destination for youth sports. It’s a win for local families who get to enjoy pro-level field conditions and top-notch amenities without leaving the neighborhood.

🦁 A Toast to Mom: Patio Pours and Sunny Bites

2212 E Williams Field Rd #112, Gilbert, AZ

With Mother’s Day just a few days away, Thirsty Lion is hitting its stride right as patio season peaks in The Colony. There’s a neighborly gravity to this spot; it’s where you gather when the sun hits the tables just right for a long, scratch-made brunch.

This Sunday, treat Mom to a Mimosa by the Bottle paired with their seasonal grilled artichokes. Dipped in lemon thyme aioli and topped with crispy onion strings, it’s a bright, zesty "hallelujah" on a plate.

Lounging by the outdoor fire pit or sharing a plate of their legendary BBQ white cheddar burgers? A celebration will feel effortless! Be sure to snag a reservation:

🎀 Handpicked treasures and glittery sips await
