There is a certain kind of energy this time of year that is hard to miss. The mornings feel a little lighter, the evenings stretch just enough, and suddenly it is easier to say yes to getting out of the house.

Lately, there has been a steady buzz around town too, the kind that comes from new spots opening their doors and familiar places finding fresh ways to pull people in. One dinner turns into a new favorite, one class turns into a hobby you did not see coming. It all feels easy, unforced, and honestly kind of fun.

This is the stretch of the season where everything just clicks a bit more. Not rushed, not quiet, just full in the best way.

🍣 Freshly rolled and glowing on Baseline

1939 E Baseline Rd #114, Gilbert, AZ

Gilbert’s dining scene got a little more vibrant with the official arrival of Zu Izakaya. It brings that sought-after Scottsdale energy to our corner of the East Valley, blending a sleek, neon-lit aesthetic with a menu that feels both elevated and approachable.

The "desert-meets-Tokyo" digital art sets a whimsical backdrop for sharing a plate of charred garlic edamame or the standout flared nigiri. While the sushi is pristine, the Korean-influenced comfort dishes (like the rich cheese katsu and savory mushroom pots) provide a soulful warmth that makes it a perfect midweek landing spot.

Service is simply as attentive as the plating is precise.

🎨 Hands on hobbies and local goods

The shelves at Studio 223 are currently brimming with spring colors, from clay earrings perfect for holiday baskets to locally made tallow. While the shop is a staple for finding Arizona-made gifts in downtown Gilbert, the real magic happens at the communal tables.

This March, the calendar is full of chances to learn something new, like weaving a chunky striped blanket or painting delicate watercolor wreaths. There is even a Saturday afternoon dedicated to the art of sourdough, where you can leave with your own starter and a fresh loaf.

Time to create something from scratch while chatting with neighbors!

🎸 Country Stars Head to Gilbert Regional Park

The Gist Gilbert Regional Park is preparing for the Boots in the Park festival featuring Keith Urban and Dustin Lynch. The lawn and amphitheater is closed from Wednesday, March 18, through Monday, March 23, to accommodate the stage. The entire park will temporarily close to the public starting at noon on Friday, March 20.

Why It Matters While our usual weekend park routines will shift, we are welcoming world-class musicians to our local stage. The park fully reopens at 5:30 AM on Sunday, March 22, though the lawn remains closed through Monday.

🚁 Flying Taxis on the Horizon

The Gist Arizona leaders are laying the groundwork for electric vehicles that take off and land vertically. State legislators recently allocated $2 million to help the Department of Transportation plan for this new technology. These quiet, electric aircraft could eventually serve as air taxis or help paramedics reach local neighborhoods faster by flying over highway traffic.

Why It Matters This technology could significantly cut down travel times and improve emergency response for everyone in our community. Phoenix airports are currently identifying specific programs for these aircraft, which could launch within the next few years.

🐾 Meet Roxy, a young Pit Bull Terrier with a stunning mahogany coat

At a sturdy medium size, she is the perfect companion for neighborhood walks or relaxing on the patio. While her past is a bit of a mystery, her calm confidence suggests a dog who is ready to settle into a steady routine.

The adoption fee ranges from $250.00 to $500.00, which covers her full veterinary care, including spay, vaccinations, and microchipping.
